Andersonville, Georgia, is a richly historic and quaint city located in Sumter County. Known for its deep roots in the Civil War era, it is best recognized for the infamous Andersonville National Historic Site, the location of a Confederate prisoner-of-war camp which has an enlightening Civil War Museum. Although small in size with a population of just a few hundred residents, Andersonville is brimming with southern charm and Civil War heritage. Stepping into this city is like taking a significant stroll back in time, with several antique shops, well-preserved buildings, and the original Train Depot built in the late 1800s serving as reminders of a bygone era.
